JOCO Pet Search & Rescue
Emergency Dog Locator Service

This service is designed for immediate-response situations where a dog has just escaped or has been recently seen.
Best results occur when deployment happens quickly and close to the last known location.

This service uses a thermal-equipped drone to help locate pets that are still nearby but difficult to see.

Thermal imaging can detect heat signatures through darkness, brush, and terrain when a pet has recently escaped or is hiding close to the last known location.

Thermal drone technology is not a standard pet recovery tool.
Effective use requires enterprise-level drones, thermal imaging systems, and a commercially certified sUAS pilot with appropriate training. Due to equipment cost, regulatory requirements, and technical complexity, this capability is not something most individuals or organizations can deploy.

When This Service Is Most Effective

  • A dog has just escaped from a home, yard, or vehicle

  • A dog has been recently seen and location is known

  • The last known area is limited and accessible

  • Immediate deployment is possible

If a dog has been missing for an extended period or the last location is unknown, locator effectiveness may be limited.

What Emergency Dog Location Involves

Emergency Pet Location is a rapid-response service focused on quickly assessing and confirming whether a missing dog is still in the immediate area following an escape.

The goal is to provide fast, actionable intelligence—using thermal imaging and aerial sweeps—to determine if the dog remains nearby and to help guide recovery efforts with precise location context when possible.

This service does not include physical pursuit, capture, or direct handling of animals. However, JOCO Pet Rescue actively supports owners and volunteers by offering real-time guidance, behavioral insights, and recovery strategies based on confirmed sightings and search data

From Panic to Plan: How We Track Escaped Dogs

When a dog escapes, every moment matters—but impulsive searching or chasing can cause more harm than good. My recovery method uses strategic planning and advanced thermal drone technology to locate lost dogs efficiently and calmly—without creating more panic or pressure.

Step 1: Escape Assessment
I begin by collecting key details:
– Time and location of the escape
– The dog’s temperament and past behavior
– Any reliable sightings or tracks

This allows me to assess the situation and design a search strategy tailored to the specific dog and terrain.

Step 2: Aerial Thermal Drone Search
I deploy a high-resolution thermal drone to scan the surrounding area. This technology detects heat signatures from above, even in wooded areas, tall grass, or backyards—day or night. The drone can locate a dog that is moving, hiding, or resting silently in hard-to-see places.

Step 3: Owner-Led Recovery
Once the dog’s location is identified, it is the owner’s responsibility to manage the recovery and capture. I provide real-time support, interpret thermal findings, and offer behavior-based recovery advice to guide the process. I do not physically pursue, handle, or capture animals—but I help ensure you’re prepared to act.

Even if a recovery attempt doesn’t succeed right away (e.g., the dog flees or avoids approach), it does not negatively impact the overall success of the operation. As long as the dog remains within the search area, I can continue to track their movements subject to drone battery life and fast battery swaps.

This approach is designed to balance speed, safety, and compassion—offering the best possible chance to bring your dog home.

Recovery Kits and On-Site Tools Used During Cat Recovery

This service includes a standard recovery kit (included at no additional cost), which provides humane live-capture traps, scent-based attractants, and basic monitoring to support most lost indoor cat recovery situations. The standard kit is designed to encourage a cat to re-emerge naturally while minimizing stress and unnecessary disturbance, and it is included as part of the $225 initial service.

When conditions indicate that additional visibility or confirmation may improve recovery efforts, an enhanced recovery kit (+$40) may be used. This option adds thermal monocular monitoring, allowing for improved detection of concealed or nighttime activity and more precise evaluation of trap placement and movement patterns. Use of either kit is determined during the on-site assessment and discussed with the owner before deployment.

Emergency Response Fees

Fees reflect deployment, response time, and operational costs. They are not tied to outcome.

Emergency Dispatch & Initial Deployment

$125

Includes rapid response, travel, setup, and a focused aerial thermal deployment during the most effective recovery window.
This deployment window typically lasts 30–90 minutes, depending on conditions, airspace, and thermal visibility.

Service Completion Fee

$100

Covers flight time, equipment deployment, and on-ground recovery efforts performed during the search, regardless of outcome.

Thermal Recovery Kit (Optional)

$40

Client access to professional thermal monocular equipment used to assist in locating heat signatures during recovery efforts.

Location information is never withheld based on payment.
Tips are optional and appreciated, but never required.

This service is designed for immediate-response situations. Extended or non-emergency searches are evaluated separately.

Jay is our families hero! Little Buoy boy was running for over 9 hours and once Jay got on sight with my daughter, he was probably found within an hour. My daughter was riding with him and updating all of the searchers where his last pings were. He was able to spot him and lead the rescuers(also our hero’s) right to him. If I had it to do all over again, he would be my 1st call, he is that good! Did I mention how compassionate he was with a very anxious puppy Mom, Jay you have a heart of gold! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Jay is my leading hero! My puppy golden got out last night in the frigid dropping temps. He was on the run for about 9 hours. Jay was able to use his services with his drone to detect motion and visuals in the area where Buoy’s AirTag was pinging. He was so kind, patient and was not going to give up til we got my baby home. He lead the men who ended up rescuing him to his location. He saved my family and my puppy! I could not reccommend him enough. Thank you, Jay.

I cannot say enough good things about Jay and his drone services!! On one of the coldest nights of the year, my dear friend’s dog got out and had been lost for hours. Jay brought his drone to the last suspected sighting of the dog. He was able to locate the dog, follow the dog with the drone as people moved on foot, in the cold, down the ravine, through the thicket, and were able to get the dog. That sweet pup would not be home safe and sound without Jay’s help. He was not only a master of his trade, but also thorough, kind and compassionate during the chaos of the search. If my dog ever gets lost, Jay will be my first phone call! Thank you so much for everything you did last night to reunite my friend with her dog!
