Privacy • Safety • Professional Standards
KC Pet Search & Rescue conducts search operations with a strong emphasis on professionalism, privacy, safety, and respect for the communities and environments in which we operate. While thermal drone technology is an extremely powerful tool, it is equally important that it is used responsibly and with purpose.
Search operations are conducted with efforts to limit unnecessary low-altitude flight activity in residential neighborhoods whenever possible. Search patterns are designed to focus on recovery objectives while maintaining awareness and respect for surrounding homes and property owners.
Spotlights and supplemental lighting are used conservatively and only when operationally necessary. KC Pet Search & Rescue works to minimize disturbances in both residential and rural areas during nighttime recovery missions.
Wildlife is commonly encountered during thermal search operations. Pilots and field personnel are trained to avoid unnecessary disturbance or harassment of animals while conducting search missions across fields, wooded areas, waterways, and rural environments.
Pilots operating for JOCO Pet Search & Rescue and KC Pet Search & Rescue are FAA Part 107 certified to conduct commercial drone operations within the United States. Search missions are conducted in coordination with internal standard operating procedures developed specifically for thermal drone pet recovery operations.
Every deployment is approached with professionalism, accountability, and respect for pet owners, neighborhoods, property, wildlife, and local communities. The mission is not only to assist in locating missing pets, but to do so in a responsible and respectful manner that reflects the standards of KC Pet Search & Rescue.
Thermal imaging can detect heat signatures through darkness, brush, and terrain when a pet has recently escaped or is hiding close to the last known location.
Thermal drone technology is not a standard pet recovery tool.
Effective use requires enterprise-level drones, thermal imaging systems, and a commercially certified sUAS pilot with appropriate training. Due to equipment cost, regulatory requirements, and technical complexity, this capability is not something most individuals or organizations can deploy.
A dog has just escaped from a home, yard, or vehicle
A dog has been recently seen and location is known
The last known area is limited and accessible
Immediate deployment is possible
If a dog has been missing for an extended period or the last location is unknown, locator effectiveness may be limited.
This service is designed for immediate-response situations where a dog has just escaped or has been recently seen. Locator effectiveness decreases significantly as time and distance increase.
Emergency Pet Location is a rapid-response service focused on quickly assessing and confirming whether a missing dog is still in the immediate area following an escape.
The goal is to provide fast, actionable intelligence—using thermal imaging and aerial sweeps—to determine if the dog remains nearby and to help guide recovery efforts with precise location context when possible.
This service does not include physical pursuit, capture, or direct handling of animals. However, JOCO Pet Rescue actively supports owners and volunteers by offering real-time guidance, behavioral insights, and recovery strategies based on confirmed sightings and search data
JOCO Pet Rescue is operated locally by a licensed FAA Part 107 drone pilot with professional experience in thermal imaging and night operations.
Every search is handled personally — with clear communication, safety-focused flight practices, and respect for both the pet and the people involved. This is not a call center or a third-party service. When you contact JOCO Pet Rescue, you are working directly with the operator performing the search.
If you have questions before moving forward, you’re encouraged to ask. Transparency matters — especially in stressful situations.
