Missing or Escaped Cat Locator and Rescue Service - JOCO Pet Search & Rescue

This service is designed for immediate-response situations where a pet has just escaped or has been recently seen.

Best results occur when deployment happens quickly and close to the last known location.

Thermal Technology and Trapping Used to Safely Recover Lost Cats

Thermal imaging can detect heat signatures through darkness, brush, and terrain when a pet has recently escaped or is hiding close to the last known location.

Thermal drone technology is not a standard pet recovery tool.
Effective use requires enterprise-level drones, thermal imaging systems, and a commercially certified sUAS pilot with appropriate training. Due to equipment cost, regulatory requirements, and technical complexity, this capability is not something most individuals or organizations can deploy.

When This Service Is Most Effective

  • A pet has just escaped from a home, yard, or vehicle

  • A pet has been recently seen and location is known

  • The last known area is limited and accessible

  • Immediate deployment is possible

If a pet has been missing for an extended period or the last location is unknown, locator effectiveness may be limited.

Thermal Technology and Trapping Used to Safely Recover Lost Cats

Lost cat recovery focuses on a methodical assessment of where a cat may be hiding after an escape, with particular attention to indoor cats that remain close to home.
The goal is to identify likely hiding locations, confirm presence when possible using thermal technology, and establish a practical recovery plan based on observed behavior and conditions.

This service includes hands-on recovery methods, such as thermal scanning of the home and surrounding area, strategic placement of humane traps, and monitoring using trail cameras. Guidance is provided throughout the process to improve the chances of safely recovering the cat while minimizing stress and risk.

Acting early allows recovery methods to be deployed while a cat is most likely still nearby, making time the most influential factor in a successful outcome.

How Indoor Cats Behave When They Escape — And How I Recover Them

When an indoor-only cat escapes outside, their natural instinct is not to run away, but to hide. Overwhelmed by unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells, these cats typically seek the nearest tight, dark, and quiet space—often staying within just a few houses of their escape point. They tend to go completely silent, making them almost impossible to locate by calling or shaking food.

My Proven Search and Recovery Method

My recovery process is specifically designed around the behavior patterns of displaced indoor cats:

  1. Thermal Monoscope Scan of Backyards:
I begin with a handheld thermal imager (monoscope) to scan yards, under decks, sheds, bushes, and other potential hiding spots—quietly and without drawing attention. This step allows me to identify heat signatures close to the escape point.

  2. Drone-Based Thermal Sweep of the Surrounding Neighborhood:
After the ground-level scan, I launch a drone equipped with a high-resolution thermal camera to sweep the broader area. This allows me to spot a hiding or moving cat from above—even in dense vegetation or darkness.

  3. Trap & Trail Camera Deployment:
Once the cat’s likely location is identified, I set a humane trap along with a baited trail camera to monitor activity. This non-invasive setup works passively and helps confirm presence without further stressing the cat.

This step-by-step approach balances speed with precision and minimizes risk or disturbance—maximizing the chances of safely recovering your cat.

Dispatch & Availability

Cat recovery services are scheduled based on availability and conducted on-site using a structured, step-by-step process focused on locating and safely recovering lost cats. Unlike emergency response models, this service emphasizes careful assessment, thermal scanning, and trapping methods that are most effective when applied early and methodically.

Service Fees & Recovery-Based Pricing

Fees reflect the time, equipment, and on-site recovery methods involved in the service, with a portion of the pricing tied to successful recovery.

On-Site Thermal Home and Neighborhood Scan

$180

Includes travel, on-site setup, and a focused thermal scan of the home and nearby areas using ground-based thermal equipment, with an aerial thermal scan of the surrounding neighborhood when conditions allow.

Owner-Assisted Recovery Trap Deployment (Shared Camera Access)

$50

Based on on-site findings, humane live traps and shared monitoring equipment may be strategically placed with the owner’s assistance to support recovery efforts and are maintained for up to six (6) days. Deployment duration varies depending on property layout, environmental conditions, and observed behavior, allowing sufficient time to evaluate likely hiding areas and implement an effective recovery plan.

Location information is never withheld based on payment.
Tips are optional and appreciated, but never required.

This service is designed to be initiated as early as possible after a cat goes missing and is conducted as a structured, on-site recovery process rather than an emergency response.

What Happens Next

  • You contact us to discuss timing, the last known location, and details surrounding the escape.

  • Availability, conditions, and service feasibility are reviewed and confirmed.

  • If appropriate, an on-site recovery visit is scheduled and the recovery process begins.
